Following on from consultations with the local community on the emerging Neighbourhhod Plan for Hebden Royd and Hilltop Parishes, which has resulted in draft policies for the area as a whole and its constituent parishes, it is considered by the Steering Committee that the issues facing the village of Mytholmroyd are substantial and best addressed through the production of a place-specific urban design masterplan.

This large linear settlement has recently struggled to create a strong sense of place and, following on from the catastrophic Boxing Day 2015 floods, sees its central high street area undergoing £10 million flood alleviation works by The Environment Agency. Amongst other remedial civil engineering works this entails the demolition of core buildings, the creation of a new road bridge and the construction of a series of extensive riverside walls. These works alone will result in a significant change in the character of the village centre.

The emerging Neighbourhood Plan has the chance to integrate the proposals of the Environment Agency with the identified needs and aspirations of local residents. The best way to do this would be through a place –specific urban design masterplan for Mytholmroyd.

The Neighbourhood Planning Committee will be working with Aecom to dvelop this plan and have alreday held a consultation/workshop day on the 28th October. The feedback from which can be found below.
